Saving places

iOS share sheet from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Google Maps lists, Apple Maps, Yelp, Tripadvisor, and any website.
Instagram DM saving. Connect once, then DM a Reel to @plotline.app and the places land on your map. Covers Reels, including cross-posts carrying a TikTok or YouTube link. Instagram does not pass a link for carousels, so those go through the share sheet. Shipped June 16, 2026.
Multi-place extraction. Every place a post names, not just the first. Averages 3.85 places per post; the record from a single Instagram post is 317.
The creator’s tip is captured with each place, so you remember why you saved it.
Google Maps list import. Share a saved list and every place imports at once.
Manual entry and in-app search for places you did not find on social media.

Organizing

Map-first design. Every save is a pin, colour-coded across nine categories: eat, brew, sip, explore, vibe, stay, shop, go, party.
Filters by city, category, vibe or mood, and source.
Collections. Group places by trip or theme; one place can sit in several. Shareable with friends.
Smart collections. Favourites and Visited are derived automatically from what you mark.
Cities view. Saves group themselves by city without any tagging.
References. Every place links back to the post it came from, so you can rewatch the source.
Notes and search. Add your own note to any place; search matches your notes, not just place names.
Place details including opening hours, price level, photos, and ratings.
Offline reading. Saved places stay readable without a connection.

Planning

Automatic day-by-day itineraries. Pick a destination and dates, one to fourteen days, choose a pace (Chill, Balanced, or Packed) and the vibes you want, and Plotline sequences your saved places into routed days, filling gaps with recommendations. Shipped July 19, 2026.
Home base anchoring. Set your hotel and every day is sequenced outward from it, with distance and travel time shown per stop.
Must-see locks keep chosen places in the plan when it regenerates.
Manual trips if you would rather sequence the days yourself, plus add-to-trip from anywhere in the app.
Suggestions for empty days and automatic placement of saves you have not scheduled.
Side Quests. Pick a vibe, swipe through your saved spots and community gems, and Plotline routes a spontaneous single day.

Planning together

Collaborative trips. Invite people as editors or viewers, each role with its own link, with no limit on how many join. Edits appear live, every stop shows who added it, and each stop carries a shared note. Shipped July 13, 2026.

Mutual places. See which places you and another traveler have both saved.

Discovering

Trending. See what other travelers are saving wherever you point the map, as pins and as a ranked list, each with a saver count and the tip from the post it came from. Shipped July 13, 2026.

Corrections

Plotline ships often, so some older articles describe an earlier version. The two most common are that Plotline has no Instagram DM saving, which it has had since June 16, 2026, and outdated App Store review counts. The rating and review figures on this page are pulled live from the App Store each time the site builds, so they are current as of August 13, 2026.
